Rules

  1. Eligibility: Open to pilots of all fixed-wing single-engined aircraft holding an RAA, or GA licence, including Student Pilots.

  2. The event will be held over a single day, at Bendigo, and will include a set of five tests.

  3. The tests will be a multiple choice aviation related quiz, a simple instrument based simulator exercise, and three spot landings,  which will be a normal landing, a glide approach ( bower off at base turn) and a flapless landing. In the event of unfavourable weather the number of landings may be reduced or abandoned, and the scores for any accomplished prior to abandonment will be published, but not used in the final results.

  4. The quiz will be scored on the number of correct answers.

  5. The simulator exercise will be scored based on constant maintenance of height and heading over two laps of a square circuit with 30-second legs. Penalties will be accrued for deviation from height and heading at the midpoint and end of each leg, and a ranking of contestants will be arranged from most to least precise.

  6. Spot landing exercises will be performed as 2 touch and goes ( it is a 1600 metre strip)  with the first  T&G  a normal landing, the next T&G as a glide approach from the base turn, with points halved for the addition of power, and the full stop as a flapless landing. The target zone will be divided into boxes, with a top score box, a short landing box, and 3 long landing boxes decreasing points for short or long, and a very low score for missing all boxes. The scoring point is when the wheels finally remain in contact with the runway. Points will be deducted for a go-around. Passengers will not be allowed, if operationally required the competitor may be accompanied by an instructor qualified for the aircraft type.

  7. Awards will be made for each event 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and an overall best award and runner-up will be awarded to the pilots with the two greatest overall aggregate scores.

  8. Judging will be by keen eyed observers, and their say will be final.

Administration:

Entries will be limited to the first 24 received and accompanied by payment of the entry fee.

If an entrant needs an instructor, they must mention this on the entry form. They may arrange their own instructor or request that the organisers find one.

Aircraft hire if needed is the responsibility of the entrant, arrangements must be made at least a week before the Event. If possible check the flight should be done before the day.

Time slots will be allocated for the air exercises, and pilots should ensure that their aircraft has sufficient fuel for the 3 circuits. The circuits will take about 20 minutes flying, but allowance needs to be made for taxi, backtracking, and possible go rounds.

Time slots will also be allocated for the simulator exercise, with suitable spacing from the air exercise.

The Quiz can be conducted at leisure, but it is in your own best interest to do it in private, and not reveal the questions to those yet to partake.

All competing aircraft must be equipped with a radio.

Competitors may choose to use QFE for the competition, just remember to return to QNH for the trip home!

We are simply extra circuit traffic on the day, so close attention is required to airmanship, and it is expected that entrants will not disadvantage normal traffic.
